Vancouver, a port city on Canada’s west coast, is British Columbia’s largest city. Gastown is a popular nickname for Vancouver, but accurately refers only to the oldest section of the city.
A native or resident of Vancouver is called a Vancouverite. While this demonym is found in newspapers and magazines, it is often replaced in more formal writing by native, resident or inhabitant of Vancouver, or some similar phrase.
- Monique is a Montrealer who has become a Vancouverite (or a resident of Vancouver).
Vancouver is commonly used as a modifier, while Vancouverite is not.
- The Vancouver theatre community is particularly active this year.
- Expo 86 was held on Vancouver’s waterfront.
