Le nom qui suit genre s’écrit au singulier ou au pluriel :
- Ce genre de femme(s) me plaît.
- Ce genre de vêtement(s) lui va bien.
Le singulier met l’accent sur l’unicité de l’être ou de la chose, tandis que le pluriel insiste sur la catégorie :
- ce genre de femme (= une femme de cette sorte)
- ce genre de femmes (= cette catégorie de personnes)
